1 out of 5 stars Very little Tucking Industry Info. Generic business info.   January 1, 1999

As a professional in the trransportation industry with an MBA, I was looking for a book that could provide detailed information concerning the trucking industry. I was interested in starting my own small fleet and I wanted information concerning fleet operational costs and government regulations. After reading this book, I was very dissapointed. The author created a generic "how to run a business" book and then varied it slightly for different business types. Just do a search using this author's name and see how many business's he is an expert in. If you want detailed information concerning the trucking business you probably will not be happy with this book.

1 out of 5 stars Very Basic   May 21, 2001

The authors apparently used a cut and paste technique in an attempt to adapt a generic "how to start a business" book to the specific subject of starting an independent trucking business. It's a poor adaption with much of the subject matter not applicable to an owner operator or small fleet trucking company, the apparant focus of the book. I felt the title misleading as the content did not prepare the reader for starting an independant trucking business as it suggests. The book is VERY BASIC in its coverage of the main subject -- how to start a business and covers very little specific to a trucking business.

I cannot recommend reading this book and certainly would not advise purchasing it.

This book was very general. All the author did was write a general book about "business" and then inserted different titles to match the type of business you are putting together. Basically he could have written one book and titled it How to Start & Manage a Business. I wanted specifics about the trucking industry. I know the basics, that is not what I needed. It bothers me because I find it to be misleading. There were no exact references about the trucking industry. It was not worth the cost, maybe $5.00 would have been sufficient!
